Monday 1st June

Hi those of you who have remained at home!

I hope you're all okay. Here's a quick message for you, mums and dads that all classes are sending out:

Please be aware that this term you will notice that the activities posted on the class blogs will be a little different from what you have been used to previously, for example, they may not always include an English and Maths lesson. This is for several reasons, i) there will be a focus on Well Being for the children (in and out of school) as we move through the Covid-19 journey; ii) normally during the summer term we have a range of curriculum focus weeks; iii) to ensure consistency for groups both attending school, or remaining at home. This approach will enable teaching staff to manage providing the planning for both groups in a workable manner.

This week, the school will focus on Well Being in our school community and reflecting on the changes we have all had to make over the last two months. We will also be enjoying some new P.E activities; the weather forecast is good to get out and about!

As before, for those at home, please complete as much or as little as you can, there are no expectations to complete all the work. We will aim to offer alternatives/ideas to address any resource difficulties. However, please feel free to change; adapt to suit your circumstances. There are of course resources such as those on BBC Bitesize that you can use to support you at home. Remember, just do as much as you are able to!

As you can see, the work we're doing in school is the same as what you'll be doing at home. I have designed it so that much of what you're doing at home can be sent in to be a part of what we're doing in school.

So here are your first tasks for Monday:

Don't forget that I want to add your posters and flag designs to our so either scan them in or take a photo of them and send them to the usual email address!

Have a great day!

Monday 1st June

Hi everyone!

As you know school is open for Year 6 children on Monday. Your mums and dads have been sent a survey telling us what you're planning on doing on Monday. They've also had lots of information about how we're going to set up the school and the classrooms to keep everyone safe.

So this video is for you. It's a little look at what the classroom will be like and what you need to do when you get to school (if you are coming on Monday).

Information Video

It may not answer all of your questions but hopefully it has given you an idea of what it will be like when you get into school.

For those of you who may not be attending, I will put the work we are doing in Class on the blog as usual.

Hope you're all okay.

Wednesday Update

Good morning Class 6!

I've been receiving a few photos over the last couple of days and wanted to share them with you.

It appears that Clemmie has been very busy over lockdown!

First of all she has learned to make sushi using avocado, rice and a seaweed wrap! They look delicious, Clemmie - amazing! I think I might have to have a go at making them now!!

And here she is on a bike ride. She tells me that she cycled 30km to deliver some onions to her Grandma! so kind and thoughtful, Clemmie! I bet that she really appreciated seeing you and having the onion delivery. Keep up the great work!

I wonder how many of you have been doing really thoughtful things like this during lockdown? Make sure that you tell us all about it!

Phone calls and Half Term

Hi everyone!

I've managed to speak to most of you now, and it's been really nice catching up with everyone. There there were some of you I couldn't get hold of 😥. I've either left a message or missed call for all of those I haven't been able to speak to and I hope to catch up with you very soon.

Half Term

I won't be setting any work over half term, but I will be still uploading chapters from There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom.

Here are some fun outdoor activities that you might consider doing with your family if you want to:

Half Term Activities

Photo Time

Hi everyone,

I've had some more great photos in and here they are:

First of all we have Jess. In this picture she is showing us her 'lockdown journey'. I imagine this is a record of what happened during lockdown. What an imaginative way to record what life was lie during lockdown. I bet this has really helped her to manage her time positively and it will be amazing to look back at in the future. A fantastic idea, Jess and I'm pleased to see that your dogs are there to give you a hand with it too 😊🐶🐕

She also wanted to share this picture that she painted when she wrote to a resident at Bay Tree Care Home. I loved this picture, Jess. 1) It is an excellent painting 2) It was incredibly thoughtful of you to include a gift and 3) I bet the person you wrote to was touched by how kind and generous you are. Keep up the great work, Jess. This was such a lovely thing to do 💪

Freddie has sent in a poem from his English work:

What an amazing poem! I love the reference to the Wizard of Oz. There is a very bright and colourful start to the poem, that moves into darkness, winter, forgetfulness and leaving the past behind. I wonder what Freddie might have been thinking of when he wrote this. I like the idea of a journey in this poem - an ongoing journey with different people along the way. Some you travel a long way with, some you leave behind. This speaks to me of everyone having different roads to follow. Incredible poem, Freddie I enjoyed reading it and it really made me think - which is what all really good poems do! Top work.

Hi all, here are your tasks for Friday 22nd May:

Friday 22nd May

Have a great day!

STAY ALERT!!!

Amelia has just sent through this photo of her with her broken foot!

She tells me that she's broken her 5th metatarsal and she did it jumping on her trampoline. Apparently she was jumping normally...but was trying to land inside a giant inflatable tyre 🙈. Oh, Amelia. Make sure you STAY ALERT!! 😂.

It's okay though as she seems to have Maisie there to keep a look out for her 👀. Good girl, Maisie, keep an eye or her for me.

Also, Amelia, when did you get so tall!?!?!? You go away for a few weeks and get all grown up! Outrageous!

I hope your foot feels a bit better soon and you can get back on that trampoline to land that awesome sounding trick jump 😉

Work Update

Good afternoon everyone!

I've had some more emails come in with people sharing what they've been up to.

First of all, Ella sent in this fantastic story that she wrote about the piano video:

 Ella's Piano Story

This wonderfully descriptive piece really captures the mood of the video. I really enjoyed reading it, Ella. Thank you so much for sending it in!

and Daisy has been up to her usual shenanigans 😉. Here we can see her practising a new sport (lacrosse by the looks of it) with her big brother, ready for secondary school.

In this first photo, I thought that trampoline looking thing on the left was a part of her stick...I thought...that's a rather large racket 🙈😂

Then we've got these pictures of the baby robins! They really are growing up fast. Keep an eye on them Daisy, and us updated with how they're getting on! 👀

Good afternoon Class 6,

Here are your tasks for Wednesday:

Wednesday 20th May

Don't forget to keep sending in your photos so I can include them on the blog!

Mr Hayden

Photo Time

I've had a couple of updates with things that you have been up to at home.

First of all, here's Grace and Toffee doing some Maths work:

She tells me that Toffee is NOT a fan of pie charts, or homework in general 😂😂. I can sympathise with you both...this is what happens every time I try to do some work at home...

Smudge's face makes me laugh the most out of these two. It's like she's saying..."What doin'?" like the dog from that advert 😂.

And now we have this from Kitty....before I tell you what it is can you guess at the purpose of her picture?

I only ask because I thought she had sent me a picture of a cushion...then I read her email and found out that this is a drawing that she did free hand!!?!?!?!? What!!?!? It's incredible! 😵😵💥💥💪. Those emojis are meant to represent my mind being blown. It's so good Kitty, well done, I'm so impressed by this - a future in design or art maybe? More of these, please!

Pupdate

Me again! (Miss Johnson that is)

I couldn't leave without giving you a Murphy update - there are far too many cats on this blog for my liking. Life is all about balance after all 😉

On VE Day we took Murphy on a rucksack adventure to see how everyone was celebrating the day.

Bailey wasn’t very keen about having a new baby brother but now they’re getting on famously!!

Music Appreciation

Hi Class 6,

It's Miss Johnson here; I've hijacked Mr Hayden's blog for the afternoon so that I can speak to you like I would on a 'normal' Friday.

Instead of a long message, I thought I would record a message for you:

Music Appreciation Message

And here is the link for the song:

 Oh Donna - 10CC

This was the first record I bought when I was 10 years old. It was written and performed by a band called 10CC and is titled ‘Oh Donna’.
If you find out what year it was released you might be able to work out how old I am!!

Mr Hayden also asked for a song to be included this week and it is here:

Look for the good - Jason Mraz

He asked me to tell you that he chose this song because he feels very uplifted when he listens to it. It's quite a new song that Jason released during the pandemic. Mr Hayden would like to encourage you all to look for the good in everything.

See you soon,

Miss Johnson

Times Tables Rock Stars

Good afternoon Class 6,

Here's a message from Mrs Piper with the results of the Times Tables Rock Stars challenge.

A massive well done to everyone who took part in the 'Gloucestershire Rockstars Championship' this week. We ended up finishing in 63rd position overall (out of 92 schools) which is a great result for the size of our school. 58 children took part from across Key Stage 2 and they managed to answer an impressive 41,306 questions correctly! 🎸😎

Really well done to those who took part. 58 children is around half of KS2 which is even more impressive! I wonder what our ranking would have been if we all did a bit.

Mr Hayden

New Book Time.

Hi Class 6!

Now that we've finished Holes, it's time to choose a new book.

I had a look in my cupboard and went to the library to gather some choices for you.

Here's a link the the video where I'll tell you about the books to help you to decide.

New Book

Then when you think you know which one you would like to hear, head to the survey below to make your choice. Also, I'm aware the I changed how I pronounced Karlestein half way through 🙈😂 oops. I  think I'll go with the first pronunciation as it sounds better haha.

Which Book Shall We Read Next?

Looking forward to reading another book to you.

Mr Hayden

Work Update

Hi everyone!

Grace has been hard at work on her computing this week and has been really imaginative by creating a stop motion animation for her advice about viruses, malware and how to combat it.

Great work, Grace!

Having spoken to some of your mums and dads over the past few days, I understand that some of you are starting to experience a dip in motivation when it comes to Home Learning. I understand that as time goes on it may be more challenging to keep up a level of work that you may have been doing before.

As I have said before, whatever you can manage as a family is acceptable and I am 100% behind the decisions that you make together in terms of work. I would encourage all of you to try to maintain a routine as this is really important for not only now, but for when you get to secondary school next year. Getting into good working habits is good practice for when you are a grown up too. For now, this might be choosing English or Maths for the day and trying some of the wider curriculum tasks. It could be doing English on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Maths on a Tuesday and Thursday with some of the wider curriculum tasks every day or every other day. It could be only working in the morning for 2 hours. It could be other kinds of learning such as cooking, cleaning, how to fix things, how to decorate, how to do the gardening. Whatever it is, try to keep the motivation to do something every day. I want to stress again that whatever you as a family agree is the right amount of work (which might even be all of it!) is okay with me. You've got one more week until 'half term' so you may enjoy your holiday even more having been a little productive now. If we make it back to school at some time in the summer term as the government have planned, then I'm going to want to have a flick through your home learning books. Not to judge, or to mark or to question you on how much you have/haven't done because that is entirely up to you all. But I am interested in what you've been up to, how you present your Home Learning and to show you that, although I haven't been there with you while you do the work, I do care about what you produce.

Remember what is most important in this time is that you are happy and healthy in body and in mind. Don't fight or argue about work, but come to an agreement that you stick to. Part of staying mentally healthy is keeping a routine that you all find manageable and productive. And don't worry about 'falling behind'....there is no behind...who would you be falling behind as nobody is in school.

Take care of yourselves and each other and I hope to see you all very soon.

Times Tables Rockstars Update

Good afternoon Class 6,

Here's an update from Mrs Piper:

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to give you a quick update following day one of the 'Gloucestershire Rockstars Championship'

There were 46 children from our school who took part today and we are currently in 50th position overall. The leaderboard only shows the top 50 schools, but I was told there are over 80 taking part. I think that you have made a great !start, especially considering that some schools have more classes and year groups involved than ours Really pleasing to see lots of children having a go, hopefully we have even more taking part on Wednesday and Thursday!

Great work, guys! How many of you had a go at your times tables today? Lets see if we can get further up the leaderboard! Keep it up 💪

Here are some more of the photos that you sent in last week. First of all we have Lottie and her family enjoying a safe, socially distant, but very fun looking VE day street party.

Next is Freddie who has been doing some excellent drawings from Draw with Rob. They look excellent, Freddie.

And a bit like Chelsea, Taya has been developing her interest in photography. She has taken these fantastic shots from all sorts of places. They look amazing, Taya - well done! Perhaps you and Chelsea can discuss your camera work when you get a chance.

Times Tables Rock Star Challenge

Here's a message from Mrs Piper and Miss Dimond

Hello Everyone,

We just wanted to tell you about the ‘Gloucestershire Rockstars Championship’ that you’re all going to have the chance to take part in next week. It’s a tournament against lots of other schools in the area that will be played using Times Tables Rock Stars. The tournament itself will run over three days from 12th– 14th May between 10am and 1pm each day. The idea is that you will try to answer as many questions as you can during those times. You’ll earn a point for each correct answer and these will be used to work out the highest scoring individuals, classes and schools.

This event is optional, but it would be brilliant if we can get as many of you involved as possible. You don’t need to be on it continuously, just go on for as long as suits you between 10am and 1pm. Every point will count - we’re aiming for the top of the leader boards!
We’re going to be sending an email out to your parents about this too. In the meantime, please try and get in some practice sessions.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Mrs Piper and Miss Dimond
