History and Science

 History

WALT: Write a diary entry about the Trojan War

Begin by reading the story of the Trojan War here

Once you are finished, I would like for you to decide whether you would like to write a diary entry from the perspective of a Spartan warrior who won the war - or a Trojan who just managed to escape (I know the story says that all Trojans were killed, but imagine you are the only one who escaped).

Imagine it is after the final battle. However, your reader is going to need a bit more detail so give a bit of backstory. Begin by writing about how the war started and how long it has lasted. Then spend most of your time writing about the final battle!

Science

WALT: Know the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

We had a look at some information about the dangers of smoking (use the 2 star information sheet) and consuming too much alcohol. Then we created 2 information posters to tell people the dangers of smoking and consuming too much alcohol.

Your task is to do the same! Use the information above to create your 2 posters!

Tuesday 14th December 2021 - English

Here are some English Tasks for the next 2 days:

WALT: Plan a descriptive chapter.

In English this week, we have been writing our own version of one of the scenes from Clockwork.

Here are some of the scenes you might like to choose from:

  • Fritz tells the story and Doctor Kalmenius arrives
  • Gretl comes downstairs in the middle of the night
  • Prince Otto arrives home dead with Prince Florian in the sledge
  • The physician cuts open the chest of Prince Otto to find clockwork inside
  • Sir Ironsoul approaches Karl
  • Prince Otto goes to Doctor Kalmenius to give Prince Florian his heart
  • The journey to Doctor Kalmenius where Baron Stelgratz sacrifices himself.
Have a think about which scene you would like to do and then use this planning sheet to help you to plan you own version of the chapter.

WALT: Write a descriptive chapter

Now that you've planned your story, I would like for you to write it.

Remember what we have worked on over the last few weeks:
  • Building tension through description
  • Using multi-clause sentences
  • Punctuating multi-clause sentences accurately
  • Using colons and semi-colons to mark clauses
  • Use of expanded noun phrases for description
  • Use of figurative language (onomatopoeia, metaphor and simile)

Now it's your turn! See what you can come up with!

I will upload 2 more writing based activities for History and Science shortly to keep you going until the holidays!
