Wednesday 13th January

Good morning everyone. I hope that you enjoyed the work on spreadsheets yesterday.

Here are today's tasks for you:

Reading

Read a chapter of your reading book. How did the chapter end? Predict and write down what you think will happen next in the story.

English

Spelling - Use each of your spellings in a sentence .

English task

Now that you have planned your pensieve memory, I would like for you to read the examples that I gave you yesterday. Notice how the children used their description to set the scene and describe how Harry was feeling at different points.

From approaching the pensieve to arriving in his old house, these children beautifully describe how Harry is feeling.

I want you to really think carefully about what he might see in his old house. Photos on the wall, toys that were lying about, other things that might have been important to Harry. What about when he sees his mum and dad for the first time? How would that make him feel?

Also think about how the chapter might end. What happens right at the end of the memory and how does Harry leave the memory? Does someone pull him out at the end?

Date. WALT: Write a flashback memory

Your Success criteria are:

  • I have written in the past tense
  • I have used a range of sentence openers
  • I have used a variety of punctuation
  • I have used descriptive techniques:
    1. expanded noun phrases to describe objects and setting
    2. adverbs and adverbials to describe how Harry is acting and feeling
    3. description to set the scene and develop the picture for the reader
I want you to only focus on the first couple of paragraphs today. Concentrate on Harry approaching the pensieve in Dumbledore's office - see if you can improve on your description from last time. Have Harry enter Voldemort's memory and describe the scene when he gets there. Stop when you have done that and read it back to yourself or someone at home. Have you created the feeling that you wanted to achieve? If you haven't, how could you improve on it?

Maths:

Here is your fluent in 5

Today you are learning about percentages. This is a recap of your understanding from learning in Year 5. It is really important that we have a solid understanding of what percentages are before we can move on. So today, we are going to ensure that we remember exactly what percentages, what they mean and how to represent them.

Begin by watching this video

Then complete this worksheet in your book

The answers are the answers

There are some further challenges here

Just so that you know, the answer to question 3 is 53% not 68%!!

Date. WALT: Understand percentages

Art

We are going to begin looking at drawing using one point perspective. This is going to help us to draw building in the future.

To start, use this PowerPoint to look at the importance of the horizon line and the vanishing point. Look at the pictures and notice how all the lines come from the vanishing point.

Keep going with the slides and have a go at drawing the 3D shapes using the horizon line and the vanishing point.

After you have finished that, use this picture. See if you can recreate the railway track scene using a horizon line and a vanishing point.
